Session #2: Tools for utilization

You conduct your research during paid working hours, but the university does not own your research results – you do. Once you have identified a research result, method or area of expertise with potential beyond academia, what are your options? How can your research create value for society?

In this session of Beyond Research, you will gain an overview of the different pathways available for turning research results, knowledge and expertise into societal value, and learn what to consider when exploring them.

Our legal expert Johan Nordlund will guide you through different pathways and explain what to consider at an early stage. This session cover:

  • Licensing – allowing others to use and develop research results, methods or technology
  • Knowledge transfer – sharing expertise through consulting and advisory services
  • Collaborations with companies and organizations – working together to apply research in practice
  • Startups and spin-outs – creating a new venture based on research results, methods or expertise

Johan will also explain the Swedish Teacher's Exemption (lärarundantaget), which gives researchers ownership of their research results, and discuss the rules surrounding secondary employment (bisysslor).

No prior knowledge is required. Bring your questions, join the discussion, and feel free to submit a question in advance through the registration form. Following the session, you will have the opportunity to book an individual meeting with Johan to continue the conversation.
